The Welland Activator

Curious Motion’s first multi-year project. Reducing loneliness and isolation in and around Elland through dance, movement and creativity.

The Welland Activator was a three-year initiative in Elland and the lower valley of Calderdale to foster stronger connections and a greater sense of belonging.

The project ran from October 2022 to March 2026, with a focus on facilitating meaningful connection, supporting wellbeing, and promoting belonging through:

  • bringing people together who may not ordinarily meet
  • directly supporting under-represented communities and those experiencing health inequalities.
  • prioritising access by actively removing barriers to participation
  • co-creating alongside our local community

Through a sensitive and inclusive approach, The Welland Activator brought local stories to the forefront, creating fresh creative avenues, and celebrating the unique character of the area through various forms of artistic expression.

Several sessions and activities have continued beyond the liftetime of this project. Find out more below.
