Walk Volunteers

Support our monthly wellbeing walks, helping people connect with nature and each other.

Overview

We are looking for volunteers to support us with our monthly Wellbeing Walks.

Our Wellbeing Walks are gentle, accessible walks, taking place monthly in Elland. Each walk includes a light creative focus, from simple photography to reflective prompts, followed by coffee and conversation. No prior experience is needed, and everyone is welcome.

Key Information

Key tasks may include:

  • Welcoming participants and helping create a friendly, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Supporting the Walk Leader with the creativity activity (e.g. handing out equipment).
  • Helping to ensure the safety of everyone involved – generally keeping an eye out for any potential hazards, ensuring children are accompanied by their parents/ carers, ensuring nobody becomes separated from the group.

Full training and support will be provided.

Job Pack/ Further Information

Curious Motions’ Wellbeing Walks take place on the first Thursday of each month at 10am. We meet at Project Colt and take a gentle walk along the canal for about 30 minutes. We then turn back and finish with coffee and conversation in Project Colt’s cafe (from approximately 11am).

Volunteers are required from 9.45am until approximately 12pm.

Volunteers help support our Walk Leader in various ways, including welcoming people, assisting with the creative activity, and generally ensuring the walks run safely and smoothly.

While regular support is especially helpful, we also welcome volunteers who are only able to join us occasionally.

How to Apply

Please contact Mahshid Alavi for an informal chat and further information on how to apply: mahshid@curiousmotion.org.uk

Timeline and Process

We take a bespoke and proportional approach to recruiting volunteers. Interested volunteers are first invited to have an informal conversation with us and they may also like to visit a session or activity to get to know us a bit more.

For regular volunteers, we then ask them to register with us via a short form and they will need to provide information for two referees. A DBS check may also be required for some volunteers. If their application is accepted we will then support each volunteer to get involved one a one-to-one basis.

For one-off volunteering opportunities, we invite people to have an informal chat with us to begin with. If they are accepted as a volunteer they may need to attend a short (1.5 hours max) introductory/briefing session for the activity or project they will be supporting.
