Brews & Grooves Volunteers

We are looking for volunteers to support our dance session for people over 55 – Brews & Grooves!

Overview

We are looking for volunteers to support us with the general running and setup/close of our regular Brews & Grooves sessions. There is the option to enjoy a free class as part of your volunteering role too if you would like to!

Brews & Grooves focuses on sharing joy and connection with others through contemporary dance and creative movement, supporting participants to feel confident in their physicality and explore their creativity together. No dance experience is needed and everyone is welcome.

Volunteers play a vital role, particularly when it comes to ensuring everyone enjoys a good cuppa (something we care a lot about!).

Key Information

Key tasks may include:

  • Helping set up the room/ space. This might include moving tables and/ or chairs in some venues.
  • Welcoming participants and helping create a friendly, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Preparing, serving, and tidying up tea, coffee, and refreshments.
  • Helping the session facilitator – for example, handing out sensory props or equipment, or generally monitoring the session.
  • Helping to ensure the safety of everyone involved – cleaning up spillages, generally keeping an eye out for any potential hazards, ensuring children are accompanied by their parents/ carers, etc.

Full training and support will be provided.

Job Pack/ Further Information

Brews & Grooves runs weekly on Tuesdays during term time. The session runs from 10am to 11.30am and volunteers are required from 9.45am until 11.30/45am.

This session already has one regular volunteer, so we are looking for someone who could join us on days when they are not available.  While regular support is especially helpful, we also welcome volunteers who are only able to help occasionally.

How to Apply

Please contact Mahshid Alavi for an informal chat and further information on how to apply: mahshid@curiousmotion.org.uk

Timeline and Process

We take a bespoke and proportional approach to recruiting volunteers. Interested volunteers are first invited to have an informal conversation with us and they may also like to visit a session or activity to get to know us a bit more.

For regular volunteers, we then ask them to register with us via a short form and they will need to provide information for two referees. A DBS check may also be required for some volunteers. If their application is accepted we will then support each volunteer to get involved one a one-to-one basis.

For one-off volunteering opportunities, we invite people to have an informal chat with us to begin with. If they are accepted as a volunteer they may need to attend a short (1.5 hours max) introductory/briefing session for the activity or project they will be supporting.
