The last time I checked in with you, I wrote about the creative process with our fabulous performance company, and my initial thoughts on the experience. Since then, we’ve been working together to form ideas into movement, and our movement into a piece… which we’ll be sharing with you all on the 30th October at Welland Festival! 

To give you a little taster before the big day, I thought I’d use this blog post to share two poems written by members of the performance company about their experiences in rehearsals. I really hope you can feel the sense of movement, creativity, and passion in their words…

Firstly, some words from Michelle, after Sandile warmed us up at the start of class with South African dance movements:

Stretching, moving, shaking

hands

stamp your feet and turn around…

Jumping, smiling

shout for joy

Tribal drums thump out the beat

sounds are low and fast

music, rhythms, 

flow through you.

Let your body go!

And secondly, Molly’s acrostic poem:

Curiouser and curiouser we thought as we

Undulated, swayed and moved.

Rejoicing and engaging, together and

Individually. Listening to the music and

Our hearts, as well as the rhythm of our bodies

Uniting to create, to unify and

Share ideas, moods and love

Made to promote a dance, so

Original, so unique, so inspiring.

Time is precious. We use it wisely.

Intent on producing a work

Of art, that we together, have created an image, a dance,

Never to be forgotten to give to the community we all belong to.
