We’ve been awarded funding from The National Lottery Community Fund to support our new three-year project!
We are so excited to announce that Curious Motion has been awarded £222,649 in funding over three years from The National Lottery Community Fund’s Reaching Communities programme to launch Calder Movers and Creators – a three-year creative health programme that will bring people together through dance, creativity and connection.
Building on our long-standing commitment to improving health and wellbeing through dance and creativity, Calder Movers and Creators will create even more opportunities for people to connect with one another, improve their wellbeing and be part of a community.
The programme will provide welcoming, inclusive activities for people in and around Elland. We hope to reduce loneliness, improve physical and mental wellbeing and create spaces where everyone feels they belong.
Investing in our communities
This funding represents a significant milestone for Curious Motion and will enable us to continue and expand our creative health work, making even more free and low-cost activities available to local people. Much of the programme will take place in Elland and the lower valley, bringing high-quality creative health opportunities to communities that have historically received less investment.
This funding also recognises of our track record of delivering meaningful, community-led dance experiences that place people at the heart of everything we do. A big thank you to The National Lottery Community Fund for this powerful vote of confidence in our work.
A vibrant programme
Calder Movers and Creators will offer a varied programme of activities designed to help people move, connect and build confidence in ways that feel enjoyable and accessible.
Activities will include:
- Inclusive movement and dance sessions
- Community celebrations and performances
- Conversation clubs and social gatherings
- Creative projects co-designed with local people
Alongside these activities, the funding will help us to strengthen our organisation for the future by growing our team, developing new partnerships and working towards establishing a permanent community home in Elland.
Looking ahead
We’re excited to begin this new chapter and can’t wait to share it with you. Over the coming weeks, we’ll be reaching out to our communities as we develop Calder Movers and Creators, making sure the programme is shaped with the people it is here to support.
We’re so grateful to have received this funding but see this very much as the beginning of the journey. We will still need the support of local people, partners and volunteers to help us achieve our mission of a society without loneliness.
There are lots of ways you can get involved:
- Moving with us – join a class, workshop or community event
- Volunteering with us – share your time, skills and enthusiasm to help make a difference
- Spreading the word – tell others about our work and help us reach people who could benefit
Finally, a big thank you to every single person that has supported us so far. We can’t wait to see what we can achieve together over the next three years!
