Curious Motion’s inclusive dance performance company brings together adults from our local community. Non-professional and professional dancers collaborate as co-choreographers and performers to create and share new dance work.
Curious Motion’s Performance Company places local people at the heart of performance making.
Company members include non-professional and professional dancers who work together to create new dance performance work. The company also has the opportunity to explore other elements of performance, including music, costume, and set design.
The company first began dancing together in July 2024 to create This Here Land… – a dance piece about togetherness, community, and celebration, which was created and performed for Welland Festival 2024.
Since then, the company has continued to make new work and perform across Calderdale. In 2025 they were featured in Common Ground, an exhibition by local photographer and filmmaker Matt Radcliffe.
Opportunities to join the company are offered at several points each year. No dance experience is required and we welcome members who are keen to perform alongside those who would prefer to contribute to the creative process only. We work in an accessible and inclusive way, ensuring everyone can participate in the way that works for them.
If you are interested in joining the company please email us on hello@curiousmotion.org.uk – we would love to hear from you!
A sharing of short works as part of the ‘Common Ground’ exhibition, curated by Matt Radcliffe, Janine Radcliffe, and Everybody Arts. The company was honoured to be featured in beautiful photography by Nic Chapman as part of the exhibition too.
This Here Land… celebrates togetherness, community, and draws inspiration from the rich local area and identity of Elland. The dancers take the audience on a compelling exploration of local landmarks, memories, and defining moments from their lives, inviting them to connect with the essence of this land; it’s past, present, and future, and how we might build community together.
