Samantha McCormick

Artistic Director

Sam is a Dance Artist with over 14 years of professional experience. Her work is focused on making a positive difference to the lives of the people and communities she works with, through inclusive and high quality artistic experiences. Sam has a passion for working with people who want to explore and discover, providing a safe space for people to take risks and feel empowered to be true to who they are. Sam believes in joy, love, kindness, friendship, and fun, so you’ll find these are at the core of Curious Motion too!

Sam also founded our festival, Welland, with support from Susan Burns, and has piloted a range of other projects in Calderdale. These have all been very well received, reaching parts of Calderdale that often experience a lack of arts and wellbeing activity, as well as making an impact across the area. Therefore, Sam set up Curious Motion as a home for her work, with the aim of developing existing projects but also providing new experiences.

Outside of Curious Motion, Sam is also Head of Dance for Flamingo Chicks, an inclusive dance charity that provides opportunities for disabled children to dance alongside their friends, an Associate Artist for English National Ballet, and she is also part of the Learning and Participation team at the Northern School of Contemporary Dance in Leeds. She is also a Trustee at Ascendance and Voluntary Action Calderdale.

Sam trained at Bretton Hall (University of Leeds), the Scottish School of Contemporary Dance, and she completed her MA in Contemporary Dance at London Contemporary Dance School.
